Newt Gingrinch, Bill Bennett and the other right-wing Neanderthals who dominate the Hannity & Colmes guest list are always telling Alan Colmes he's their "favorite liberal".  I wonder why!

Alan Colmes has inhabited the Fox sewer for so long he can no longer smell the stench.  He really seems to believe that the Fox News network, and the show he sub-hosts with the main host, Sean Hannity, are "fair and balanced."  He cheerfully lends his presence to a fraudulent enterprise.

And it's even worse.  Colmes has a full-blown case of political talk show Stockholm Syndrome.  Nothing makes him happier than criticizing his "fellow Democrats" or liberals for what Colmes eagerly agrees with his right-wing guests are "inappropriate" words used by Democrats or liberals to denounce the latest right-wing outrage.

Nothing personal against Colmes.  He seems like a real nice guy.  And that is a large part of the problem. [More to come on the areas of personality, ideology, debate tactics, program guests, and program topics...]

Debate Tactics: Colmes seems to think he's in a high school debate competition, and afterwards the faculty advisor will take everyone out to the local diner for milkshakes and pie [More to come...]

Endnote: I'm sure the criticism will be made that my real gripe is that Alan Colmes is not as progressive (or "far left" if you will) as I obviously am, as anyone can see by going to my main site, The Rational Radical.  But such a criticism is invalid.  Even if I were a mainstream liberal Democrat, I would still believe Colmes has to go.  It's not because he doesn't effectively present my views, but because he doesn't effectively present even mainstream liberal views.

Such has long been the conclusion of mainstream liberals, as evidenced by this Tom Tomorrow cartoon from a few years ago.  A  New York Times article about Fox News stated that the program consists of ""a pair of hosts ostensibly representing right and left, but which is dominated by the conservative Sean Hannity." Even the official Amazon.com site review of Colmes' new book feels compelled to point out that Hannity "dominates" Colmes on their show.

I haven't read Colmes' book, but however effective it is or isn't, the fact will remain that on Hannity & Colmes, Alan Colmes still functions as the object upon which Hannity and the legions of right-wing guests wipe their feet.
